Can I Be a Professional Blogger?
One question that I keep getting from my readers is “Can I be a professional blogger?” Many consider being a pro blogger an impossible dream, something that only the best of the best can achieve and some go as far as claiming that it is impossible nowadays to be a professional blogger (a person who earns their income exclusively from blogging). To all these people, I have three words: you are wrong!
With very few exceptions, I am confident that every living being on this planet that knows how to write can become a professional blogger and earn a nice living from blogging. You don’t have to be an expert, you don’t need to be a native English speaker, you don’t need to have a ton of money to start this, you just need the dream and the patience to make it come true.
Take me for example. A poor Romanian boy that started blogging in 2008, when the blogging bubble had already exploded and fewer and fewer people could cheat Google to make over $100,000 per month. I got my first check from Google after six months of working hard on my blog. Now, five years later, I have already seen how it feels to make over $10,000 per month from Google Adsense alone. So am I “more” of a professional blogger now than I was five years ago?
Although I clearly have a lot more experience and I have a much better understanding of how things work, I was always a professional blogger. Or at least one year after starting my blog: I was earning back then several hundred dollars per month, but it was a sum that was enough for me to live a decent lifestyle here in Romania. And this is what being a professional blogger is all about: earning enough to live a decent life. The more you make, the better, and I do believe that we should all aim higher, but always remember this: in order to get at the top of the ladder, you need to climb all the way from the bottom!
So what do you really need to be a professional blogger?
Except for the obvious: a blog for your writing and some great hosting, you need dedication and perseverance. You don’t need to be a great writer (although it always helps), you don’t have to be an expert (although it always help), you don’t need a ton of experience. You just have to start, have faith in you and never give up.
If you were in my situation, spending 6 months working for ZERO revenue, would you still have faith that blogging was the perfect choice for you? Would’ve you kept going or done, just like everybody else is doing, the obvious: quit?
Well, looking at my story so far, quitting would’ve been the bad choice. I did have a rough start, I made little money blogging compared to others, but my time has come. $10,000 per month is something that anybody should be proud of and it all happened because I never gave up. I kept trying to get better, I kept learning and reading and DOING. This is all that you have to do too if you want to be a professional blogger.
Can you do it?
